Watermelon? W44
I forgot to tell y'all last week I got asked 3 times if I was a nun..... Also, I forgot to tell you that at a baptism last week we were in charge of serving the cookies and of course I thought it'd be easy. Next thing you know I'm grabbing the cookies and they fall all over the floor. Not my best moment.
My fav people Ken and Linda went to the temple on Wednesday! I wasn't able to go because I live too far now so I had a little FOMO but, I'm so proud of them and I'm so grateful I have been a part of their journey.
We have a new friend named Ciera! I'm stoked about her. One of our favorite members referred her to us. Ciera said she was interested in learning when she saw her friend's (Sis Meloni) reaction when her husband died. She said she had never seen someone so at peace with such a tragic thing happening. SO COOL! The gospel offers that peace and comfort. I just love how Ciera was able to recognize that. She also wants a church for her daughter Britta to grow up with. When we showed up, we didn't know if we had the right house because it was the nicest house I've taught in! We are excited to keep working with her. She said she just feels drawn to this church and is praying about it right now. She came to church with her daughter Britta and had such a good time. She came in with her Bible and Book of Mormon and was nodding in agreement the whole time:)
A Karen teenage boy got baptized on Saturday. His name is Monday and he's so cool. I felt the spirit so strong as he was in the font. It was incredible to hear the baptismal prayer in Karen. It was just a testimony that this is the Lord's work and it's the same no matter what language. We also went to a Karen party for a baby's first birthday and ate all sorts of food. Some good, some not so good. All the sudden I was handed a cup and there was bread, peanuts, and like high fructose corn syrup, with sweet and condensed milk. It's called ice salad. I do not recommend. Also, my fav Karen lady Te Sher Paw gave me a bag! She literally dumped all of her stuff out and just handed it to me! So sweet.
One of my favorite moments this week was after English class. We met 2 new friends in English class. One was from Mexico, and he has been in the states for 2 years. His name was Nelson. And the other was a Buddhist Munk from Burma. We were all trying to communicate, and it was just hilarious. We asked the Buddhist Munk how to say bye in Burmese and nobody could say it correctly, but Nelson tried and said, "watermelon?" Hahah I love all of our English class friends. I'll put a picture of us below!
Our friend Elizabeth who wasn't being taught at the moment texted us and said, "let's get this ball rolling again", so we are excited for her. Other than that, this week we saw fireflies, got to play volleyball with a bunch of 14-year-old Karen kids saying "bruh", ate good Karen BBQ with Dah Ree, had incredible lessons, and felt the spirit so strong.
