Hoarding: Buried Alive W43
Sooo much happened this week! Very eventful week.
The first two days were long meetings because we had a mission tour. Elder Stanfill came to our mission. We had a MLC with him on Tuesday and Zone conference on Wednesday. Him and his wife were incredible and taught me so much, they also remembered everyone's names, it was a skill I want to have.
Okay COOLEST miracle happened this week. On Thursday we got a text from this lady named Alisha she said, "Hi, this is Alisha. I just wanted to say I really wanna get back in church and to be able to do study groups, I think I fell off my path." Which was the best text a missionary could receive. She had practically been taught everything and we set up a lesson for Friday. Well, the lesson went so well, and we set a date with her to be baptized! She said she feels really good about it and is ready to turn her life around! She came to church on Sunday and loved it!
I found this guy named Joe on Facebook! He used to meet with missionaries years ago. I asked him if he wanted to study the Book of Mormon with us and he said yes, you can call me anytime! So, we had a lesson, and he is so prepared he even remembered lots about Joseph Smith! He is looking for truth and wants us to drop off a Book of Mormon for him! Also, somebody that we met tracting named Brian found me on Facebook from a local group in Owensboro and started messaging me! Facebook is incredible.
On Friday I walked up to these people on the street and asked if they needed help carrying some stuff into their car. They let us help them and we got their numbers. Next thing you know we are at their house the next day. We walk in and it's dark and there is stuff piled everywhere and they give us root beer. It was a real Kentucky experience. They were smoking right in front of us. Felt like I was starring on the show "Hoarding: buried alive." So, for the next 2 hours we basically just moved stuff around and didn't get anywhere because she didn't want to get rid of anything. There was probably dust older than me in my mouth. It was just one of those moments where I looked at my companion and thought, "wow nobody else will understand or believe what we just went through." Hey at least they were really nice and asked questions about missionary work. She asked us to come back so I will keep y'all updated.
We had a great lesson with our friend EhShee and even her sister EhSue sat in for the first time. Her prayer at the end was so sweet she said, "Thank you for letting my 2 friends come over and talk about CPR with me and growing closer to you." The Karen culture is incredible. The kids just run up to you and give you hugs, and the parents always want to give you something. We got to go to our good friend Bu Wahs graduation party and eat noodles! We also volunteered teaching English class at the refugee center and now all my best friends are the Afghanistan refugees! I love all these people; they are so humble and have been through way too much.
I also finished the Book of Mormon today. That book is power. It is true. It was reserved for this day. That means everything to me. It shows we have a merciful God that talks with all of his children. If that Book is true that means there are a whole lot of other things true, like this gospel. Read it, please!
This work is incredible, and I'm so blessed to have been called to Kentucky. I know this is exactly where I'm supposed to be. The greatest joy comes from sharing the gospel I know that to be true because I have felt that every day while being out here.
