9 Months & Working With Inactives W39
Hello!!! Such a good week!! So many cool miracles and exciting news.
IT'S MY 9 MONTHS TODAY!!!! First off, after 6 months in Crestwood I am now leaving:/ I am headed to Owensboro Kentucky with my MTC comp SISTER EBERT. I could not be more thrilled. Best case scenario. So, if anybody remembers 9 months ago when me and Sister Ebert got here, she got assigned Karen speaking. We were devastated because our president said she would be there her whole mission and we knew our chance of being comps was gone. Well turns out things didn't work out as our president thought and he said now I'm going to join her in Owensboro. Get this! I have to learn Karen (not Korean). I'll tell you more about it next week. Wish me luck. I thought English was hard enough for me and now I'm going to be having language study on my mission!!
Here are some cool miracles where God put us in the right place at the right time. This story is similar to Elder Soares that he gave in general conference. Okay, so there's this guy named Larry who was baptized in 1993 when he was 20 and he went to church for a few years but got out of the habit and hasn't been back since. So, he has moved around a bunch, and he has been living here in Crestwood for 3 years and nobody knew who he was because his records weren't here. The Elders in the ward right next to us were doing Facebook work and reached out to him not knowing he was already a member. Well, he lives in our ward boundaries and said he would meet with us. We went over and talked about the Book of Mormon and the Atonement. His wife who is not a member was there and she is actually really interested and took a Book of Mormon! We invited them to church and Larry came yesterday! It was his first time going to church in a long time. He loved it and texted us saying that this was an answer to his prayers, and he definitely needed this. He also said he is committing to continue and has decided to officially come back to church and wants his wife, Sandy to join the church as well.
On P-day we got our nails done with the Hermanas. The coolest thing happened. The guy doing my nails said, "Wait, are you a missionary?" I said, "Yes!" Anyways, it turns out he was baptized when he was younger. He met the missionaries on the street and thought they were cool so he started coming to church. He was the only one baptized in his family and even went tracting with the missionaries!! He said he knew how it feels to have doors slammed in our face. HE WAS SO COOL. He said the only reason he left the church was because he accidentally hurt the bishop's son in a bouncy house and was too embarrassed to ever come back. Haha. I invited him back and told him all about my mission. I had to put the church address in the Venmo caption! I hope he comes back. How cool is that? What are the odds?
So cool to see paths cross with Inactive members. My most rewarding times have been working with inactive members. We had an incredible lesson about temples with our recent convert sitting outside the temple! It was so cool to teach about it while we were sitting outside!! Other than that, this week had a lot of sad goodbyes. I have formed so many close relationships and I have loved serving in the Crestwood 1st and 2nd ward. God really is in the details of everything and puts people in your life that you need when you need them. I am so grateful for how close I have been able to get to my savior in this area and I'm grateful for the hard times and the good times and I can't wait to see what the future holds!
